Techno beats on the streets

TODAY was AWESOME. Kara, Jenna, Sean and I went to the techno parade. We showed up to the Bastille area (where the parade ends) around 3 just as the crowds were beginning the form. Young french hooligans were already picking flights with each other and I knew it was going to be a great day! We headed to a bar since we still had 2 hours til the parade arrived. By the time we returned to the Bastille everything had changed-- the roads were blocked off and there were thousands of people and we could hear the techno beats approaching! Suddenly the parade was upon us and people swarmed from all directions. There were people ON the Bastille! It was just like it was 3 years ago when Jenna, Bobby, Gio and I attended the parade. It is so bizarre (but interesting) to see all this modern day chaos happening on and around such an ancient and beutiful peice of Paris. On multiple occasions as I was risking my life in front of an oncoming float to get the perfect shot I was violently pushed out of the way by the "guys in orange shirts" who apparently were in charge? It was such chaos!!! But SO much fun. Before we knew it, it was over. That's when I realized my camera was missing... I'm just choosing not to think about it so I don't get really pissed. I'm the most upset about all the amazing pictures I took today which are now in the hands of some French creep. Ok thats enough about that.

Sean and I continued on in the spirit of the techno parade and adventured around Paris. We had such a funny night! We did free salsa lessons on the Seine, somehow ended up at some market/festival/concert and become some strange bands biggest fans, watch some crazy roller blading show and had many misadventures along the way. Such a good night.

Sadly I do not have any pictures to share since I am sans camera. But on the bright side, I have a 35mm camera that I am borrowing for my photo class so I will have some great film pictures developed soon enough!

Coucou c'est nous!!!

Jenna and Kara are finally here! We have already managed to come up with a few new favorite phrases in the past 2 days, including... Coucou c'est nous!, jour et nuit, and anything to do with GLOBI. I'm sure there will be much more to come. Tomorrow is the TECHNO PARADE!!! so excited! We happened to stumble upon it 3 years ago and it was amazing. Now we are are all ready for round 2.

Someone lost their bird... good luck with that.

Coucou c'est GLOBI!

Jour et nuit.... a a a nuit

schoolio

Classes are going great! We did our first canvas in painting class, went to Montparnasse station to draw today (for 5 hours!), learned how to use a 35mm camera in photo, sculpted a model of my FACE in sculpture class, and fell even more in love with my art history teacher. Here are a few pics from the week... I promise I'll try to take more!

Guess who's back, back again

2 weeks have flown by and now its time for the other girls to get here! In case you don't know the story, Kara, Jenna, Becca and myself have had this plan to move back to Paris for quite some time now. We were all in Paris together during the fall of 2006, and now we are finally back home. Kara gets here tomorrow!!!

Here are some pics of us in 2006. God we look awful.

Here's the whole group (and Theresa! hahaha) on Thanksgiving, 2006.

"One year masters"

The certificate program club (or candidates for a one year masters as we like to say). We're old.

La Tour Eiffel

I went the Eiffel tower today to take pictures for my first assignment in photo class. We are supposed to take interesting, unexpected and never-before-seen pictures of the Eiffel tower. Here are a few of the pictures that I won't be using... but thought they were still blog-worthy. I'll probably be making a few more trips during different times of the day til I'm really satisfied.

yum

yum.

Last week all of us certificate students had a back-to-school french pot-luck at Chase's apartment. Lots of food and wine to be had. We were all kind of drawn together right away, being that we have already been through undergrad, and were feeling a little old. Very glad that I found them all!

first week of school!

well it went quite well I must say. I'm really excited about both painting and drawing and I think I am going to learn A LOT! I am also taking print making and photography which are both new to me so that will be very fun. Sculpture will be interesting... I'm already butting heads (and got into a huge argument/discussion) with my professor about just about everything, including (but not limited to) the meaning and purpose of art, level of abstraction and the artist's intention. So it should be an interesting semester to say the least. He has also given us VERY specific assignments, which is not what I'm used to. But I'm determined to not let his stubbornness get in the way of what
I want to do. It is my art after all, not his. (And I'm stubborner anyways). I miss Ty's class!!!

And then there is art history. Art from 1900-1960 which is an amazing time period. I have never really had a crush on a professor... until now! I am in love. I think I was giggling the entire class. Before I got to class I was planning on dropping it cuz I'm really busy I don't actually
need this class, but needless to say I am sticking with it now ;)

On friday I was in class from 8:30 to 7:15... which I will be doing every friday... VDM.* But after class I went home, hung out with Fozz, got ready and went right out with my fellow certificate student friends. We had a great night and I even got to wear the shoes! Tonight... fireworks!

Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs

I'm reading this book right now titled Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs. I definitely recommend it, but only if you are very familiar with pop culture. Chuck Klosterman (author) does a hilarious analysis on pop culture and why we do the silly things we do. In one of the sub-chapters is a little section titled "The twenty-three questions I ask everybody I meet in order to decide of I can really love them." I was literally shaking in my seat on the flight to Paris. Here are a few of my favorites. (Feel free to answer any of these questions via email or by commenting, I would love that!)

6. At long last, someone invents "the dream VCR", This machine allows you to tape an entire evening's worth of your own dreams, which you can then watch at your leisure. However, the inventor of the dream VCR will only allow you to use the device if you agree to a strange caveat: When you watch your dreams, you must to so with yout family and closest friends in the same room. They get to watch your dreams along with you. And if you don't agree to this, you can't use the dream VCR. Would you still do this?

7. Defying all expectation, a group of Scottish marine biol
ogists capture a live Loch Ness Monster. In an almost unbelieable coincidence, a bear hunter in the Pacific Northwest shoots a Sasquatch in the thigh, thereby allowing zoologists to take the furry monster in captivity. These events happen on the same afternoon. That evening, the president announces that he may have thyroid cancer and will undergo a biopsy later that week. You are the editor of The New York Times: What do you play as the biggest story?

13. Every person you have ever slept with is invited to a banquet where you are the guest of honor. No on will be in attandance except you, the collection of your former lovers, and the catering service. After the meal you are asked to give a fifteen minute speech to the assembly. What do you talk about?

18. You have won a prize. The prize has two options, and yo
u can choose either (but not both). The first option is a year in Europe with a monthly stipend of $2000. The second option is ten minutes on the moon. Which option do you select?

19. Your best friend is taking a nap on the floor of your living room. Suddenly you are faced with a bizarre existential problem: This friend is going to die unless you kick them (as hard as you can) in the rib cage. If you don't kick them while they slumber, they will never wake up. However, you can never explain this to your frie
nd; if you later inform them that you did this to save their life, they will also die from that. So you have to kick a sleeping friend in the ribs, and you can't tell them why. Since you cannot tell your friend the truth, what excuse do you fabricate to explain this (seemingly inexplicable) attack?

That is all for now. I might divulge my opinions on a later date, but until then, let your mind wander through all the possible answers. And you if you like these, you should check out the book!

((wow I am never writing that much again. I'll stick to pictures from now on))

Ode to shoes

got a little inspired by le blog de betty and all her cute shoes and outfits so i did this!

(the best thing about these shoes... i got them three years ago.)

A feeling came over me

This is one of my favorite quotes about Paris. It's from the movie Paris Je t'aime. If you haven't seen it, you really should. This segment is about the middle-aged, single, American woman who goes to Paris to work on her french. This is part of her french essay that she wrote for her french class back in the US about her trip to Paris. Makes my heart glow every time I hear it. I am/WILL BE this woman!

"Sitting there, alone in a foreign country, far from my job and everyone I know, a feeling came over me. It was like remembering something I'd never known before or had always been waiting for, but I didn't know what. Maybe it was something I'd forgotten or something I've been missing all my life. All I can say is that I felt, at the same time, joy and sadness. But not too much sadness, because I felt alive. Yes, alive. That was the moment I fell in love with Paris. And I felt Paris fall in love with me."

That is exactly how I feel every time I am in Paris, and was never able to put words to it until I saw this movie! Amazing, isn't it? I hope that everyone will experience that one day.

Mon petit chien

Fozzie is in Paris! Obviously I have to make a post dedicated to him. He is still adjusting I think, Paris is a busy place with lots of new people and new dogs. I'm sure he has no idea how far from home we are!

Thank you, iphone

Well I'm not exactly using my iphone, but I just carry it around with me to snap a quick photo from time to time, and then throw it in the polarize app. Lovely!

Le Premier Blog

First blog post ever! I made it to Paris and I have no idea what to put on my blog! So for my first post, I leave you with this... seems appropriate.

"lets start from the very beginning, a very good place to start"

FUCK YEAH I'm in PARIS!

I MADE IT

I cannot even explain how wonderful it is to be back in Paris. I somehow made it here against all odds, and now I know for sure that it was meant to be. It feels like home! Here are some pictures from the first few days. (I need to start taking more).
